The 10 MUST HAVE SONGS For Every School Formal

We have tried to keep this list relatively timeless. These are songs that have worked for years and will still work a few years down the line. There will always be a new “flavour of the month” song but this is a solid foundation that our School Formal DJs will build a cracking formal dance set from.

1. Mr Brightside

Save this one for later in the night! High energy singalong banger that never fails.

2. Party In The USA

This song is the undisputed girls singalong champion for formal dance floors.

3. Thrift Shop

An awesome track that works well for girls and boys alike. You can sing to it, dance to it. Just make sure you have the clean version!

4. Sweet Caroline

I cannot explain why this song works so well at formals, I don’t even know how the students know the words, but I can guarantee that when the chorus hits, it will be one of the biggest songs of the night.

5. Yeah 3x

This track is a favourite amongst our team as a final song of the night. It’s up beat, well known and the dance cues “Everybody put your hands in the air” makes for some epic dance floor moments.

6. Halo – Beyonce

This track is one of our favourites for during dinner, everyone knows the words so you can expect some singing along at their tables.

7. All Star – Smash Mouth

This track leans more towards the boys, it’s a chunky, pop-rock track with iconic lyrics and a chorus that gets your dance floor moving. Works well towards the start of your dance set.

8. Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore

This song has stood the test of time and is an A grade formal track. It is fast, easy to sing along to and is sure to raise the roof (pun intended, listen to the lyrics and you’ll get what I mean).

9. Dancing In The Moonlight – Toploader

This is what we call a dance floor warmer. Play it 10 mins before dancing is due to start and follow it up with some more upbeat tracks to prep your audience for the dance floor.
